The Staff Lounge Talks the book behind the podcast
Since late 2024, one of us has written the minutes after every coffee-break conversation. Those minutes are becoming a book: six questions, argued from three sides, with the readings that shaped them and the questions we still can't close.
- 6questions
- 3voices
- 1staff lounge
Listeners whose questions shape an episode can be credited in the book, always with their permission.

Six questions, three ways to answer them
Each chapter starts where the episode started: one question asked over coffee. Then the positions we argued, the thinkers we leaned on, and what we still couldn't settle.
Chapter 01 · Perception
Is perception everything?
How much of what you see is really yours, and how much did you inherit?
Explore the question →Chapter 02 · Character
What is a strong character?
Rock or air: holding firm, or knowing when to move.
Listen to the episode ↗Chapter 03 · Success
What should we count as success?
Who first told you what success looks like, and do you still agree?
Explore the question →Chapter 04 · Wealth
Do you need wealth before you can have friends?
Money works like salt: it brings out the taste, but nobody makes a meal of it.
Explore the question →Chapter 05 · Power
When does power corrupt?
Does power change the people who hold it, or show who they already were?
Explore the question →Chapter 06 · Tolerance
Where does freedom end?
Tolerance as an art, not as passive acceptance.
Explore the question →
Every chapter is built from the minutes we've kept since 2024, edited and checked against the recordings.
No chapter ends on a verdict. Each closes with the questions that stayed open, so you can carry on thinking.
Questions from listeners that shape an episode can appear in the book, with your name only if you agree.

What we collect
Your first name and e-mail address, the time you signed up and confirmed, and which version of the consent text you agreed to. That's all.
Why, and on what basis
To e-mail you about the book The Staff Lounge Talks: a first chapter and the release. We don't use your details for anything else. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time without affecting what happened before.
Double opt-in
We first send a confirmation link to check that the address is yours. If you don't confirm, your details are deleted automatically after 7 days.
Protection against abuse
To stop automated sign-ups, the server keeps a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for one hour, then deletes it. We never store your IP address itself. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a working, spam-free form (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Who handles the data
The list is stored on our web server at ALL-INKL.COM (Neue Medien Münnich, Germany), which processes it on our behalf under a data processing agreement. When you confirm, we receive a short notice in our mailbox at Proton (Proton AG, Switzerland, a country with an EU adequacy decision). Nobody else receives your details, and we never sell or share them.
How long we keep it
Until you leave the list, or at the latest three months after the book is published. Then the list is deleted.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to limit its use, to receive a copy, or object (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to philosophytalks@proton.me. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or the authority where you live.
Voluntary, no automated decisions
Joining is voluntary; without an e-mail address we can't tell you when the book is ready. We make no automated decisions and build no profiles.
